About the course

What this course is.

An architecture evaluation ends in a list a team can work from: risks, non-risks, sensitivity points and trade-offs. The iSAQB ARCEVAL curriculum 2022.1 describes that path. You elicit quality scenarios, run an ATAM workshop on an example architecture and check a running system with metrics. DCAR, TARA and PBAR show when a full ATAM is too much.

ARCEVAL has no exam of its own. Attendance earns credit points toward CPSA-A admission; the certification is an assignment and an oral exam by iSAQB-appointed experts, after all admission requirements have been met.

The curriculum recommends the CPSA Foundation Level basics: describing architectures with views, cross-cutting concepts, design decisions and constraints. Own experience in building and maintaining software is desirable, and knowing typical design questions helps with some concepts.

Questions before you book.

Does the ARCEVAL module have an exam?

The Albion ARCEVAL course has no exam and earns CPSA-A credit points. Certification involves an assignment and an oral exam assessed by experts appointed by the iSAQB, after all admission requirements have been met.

How many credit points does ARCEVAL give?

The Albion ARCEVAL course carries 20 credit points for methodical competence; technical and communicative competence are zero in the iSAQB curriculum 2022.1. The iSAQB counts them toward admission to the CPSA-A exam.

Do I need CPSA-F to attend?

You do not need CPSA-F for the Albion ARCEVAL course. The iSAQB curriculum recommends the Foundation Level knowledge; a passed Foundation exam is required only when you apply for the CPSA-A certification.

What do I get for attending?

The Albion ARCEVAL course ends with the Albion certificate of participation, from 80% attendance and with a public verification page. No exam is involved.

Which evaluation methods does ARCEVAL cover?

The Albion ARCEVAL course teaches ATAM as its core method and covers CBAM, DCAR, TARA, PBAR and ARID in outline, as the iSAQB curriculum 2022.1 sets out.

Does ARCEVAL cover systems that already run?

Yes, the Albion ARCEVAL course evaluates running systems too: one chapter of the iSAQB curriculum is about checking the implementation in code, with metrics, tools and dynamic analysis.
