What this course is.
Three days of software architecture along the iSAQB curriculum 2025.1: write quality scenarios, cut a system into building blocks, document the views in arc42 and assess the design. You leave with an architecture you designed and argued yourself.
The course and the certification are two things. Passing the CPSA-F exam makes you a Certified Professional for Software Architecture, Foundation Level; attending earns the Albion certificate of participation.

Prerequisites
RecommendedThe curriculum expects over 18 months of software development in a team outside formal education, practical experience with at least one higher programming language, and basics of modelling and abstraction, algorithms and data structures, testing, plus UML class, package, component and sequence diagrams.
What the course covers.
The topics follow the iSAQB CPSA-F curriculum 2025.1. Your trainer works through them live with the group.
How the days run
One case system runs through all three days. Each short teaching block is followed by your work on the case, then a discussion in the group.
- Day 1: role and requirements
Where architecture work starts and what it answers for.
- Clarify the role's tasks and stakeholder concerns
- Write qualities as quality scenarios
- Weigh requirements against constraints
- Agree the case study's quality goals
- Day 2: design and structure
The curriculum's longest chapter, 360 of 1080 minutes.
- Cut the system into building blocks and cross-cutting concepts
- Choose design principles and architectural patterns
- Design, version and document the interfaces
- Sketch the design in C4 levels and weigh what distribution costs
- Day 3: documentation and assessment
Writing the architecture down, then checking it.
- Document views in an arc42 structure
- Record decisions as ADRs
- Review another group's design against its scenarios
- A short ATAM introduction, not examined per the curriculum
- Sit a mock exam in the iSAQB format and review it together
After the course you can
- Explain what the architecture role is responsible for
- Write quality scenarios and derive design decisions from them
- Cut building blocks and manage the dependencies between them
- Select architectural patterns for a stated problem
- Document an architecture in views for a target group
- Record decisions with their reasons and the rejected alternatives
- Assess risks and metrics, and check the implementation against the design
- Defend trade-offs to stakeholders

Three course days
For the three days of the Albion CPSA-F course you need a computer, online a quiet connection. The times are on the date you booked.
The exam
A CPSA-F exam booked with Albion is sat after the course with the certification body, which tells you the result.

Questions before you book.
Is the CPSA-F exam part of the booking?
The CPSA-F exam is a separate item at Albion and costs 250 EUR plus VAT. You add it at checkout or register yourself later; the iSAQB requires no course attendance to sit it.
Who sets and marks the CPSA-F exam?
The CPSA-F exam is set and marked by a certification body recognised by the iSAQB, not by Albion. It follows the Albion course, and that body tells you the result.
What do I get for attending?
For the Albion CPSA-F course you receive the Albion certificate of participation from 80% attendance, with a public verification page. It does not depend on passing the exam.
What if I do not pass the exam?
If you do not pass the CPSA-F exam after a public Albion date, you retake it once free of charge within twelve months of the course start, with at least two thirds attendance. Not for in-house or partner seminars. Conditions in the Terms.
Is there a discount for a team?
Albion applies a group discount for several seats in one CPSA-F booking. Whether it applies to a date, and from how many seats, is shown on the date's row and at checkout. For a team, Albion provides an in-house quote on request.
How long is the certificate valid?
The CPSA-F certificate is valid for life, whether you add the exam to your Albion booking or register later. The iSAQB requires no renewal and no continuing education.
Do I need CPSA-F for an Advanced module?
You do not need CPSA-F for an Advanced module or for credit points, and the Albion CPSA-F course earns none itself. Only applying for the CPSA-A exam requires a passed Foundation exam.
Online or on site: the same course?
The Albion CPSA-F course runs the same programme and the same case study online and on site. What differs is the room and the seat count, which each date shows.
Do I need a specific programming language?
The Albion CPSA-F course keeps its examples language-neutral, so no particular programming language is needed. The iSAQB curriculum puts frameworks, programming languages and process models out of scope.
