What this course is.

Between a library and a language there is no clear boundary, only a spectrum a DSL can move along step by step. The iSAQB DSL curriculum 2023.1 follows that move: where a custom language earns its place, how syntax and semantics are defined, what the type system and the effects look like, and which parser and editor tools carry it.

The module has no exam of its own. Attendance earns credit points toward CPSA-A admission; certification requires a separate assignment and an oral exam.

The curriculum expects computer-science basics about languages: formal grammars, regular expressions, the difference between interpreters and compilers, and the role of types in programming.

Compiler construction, tactical domain-driven design and combinator library design help.

CPSA-F is not needed to attend.

This course contributes 30 of the 70 credit points required. Your total across modules must include at least 10 points in each area.

Does the DSL course have an exam?

The Albion DSL course has no exam and earns CPSA-A credit points. Certification involves an assignment and an oral exam assessed by experts appointed by the iSAQB, after all admission requirements have been met.

How many credit points does DSL earn?

The Albion DSL course earns 30 credit points: 20 for methodical competence, 10 for technical and none for communicative. The iSAQB DSL curriculum 2023.1 sets that split.

Do I need CPSA-F to attend?

You do not need a CPSA-F certification for the Albion DSL course: the iSAQB states that an Advanced module can be attended without one. Admission to CPSA-A does require a passed Foundation exam.

Is DSL a compiler construction course?

The Albion DSL course covers language design and compiler-construction concepts for DSLs. The iSAQB curriculum also lists compiler construction as helpful background.

Do I need a particular programming language?

The Albion DSL course requires no particular programming language; the iSAQB curriculum names none in its prerequisites. Its tools chapter covers host languages suited to embedded DSLs, such as Racket, Haskell, Ruby and Kotlin.

What do I get for attending?

For the Albion DSL course you receive the Albion certificate of participation from 80% attendance, with a public verification page. It depends on attendance, not on an exam.
