About the course

What this course is.

The DDD module works on the two levels of domain-driven design. In strategic design you cut a system into bounded contexts and record how they relate in a context map. In tactical design you fill one context with entities, value objects, aggregates and services. Between them sits the work with domain experts that produces the ubiquitous language.

DDD has no exam of its own. Attendance earns credit points toward CPSA-A admission; the certification is an assignment and an oral exam by iSAQB-appointed experts, after all admission requirements have been met.

Before you book

Is this the right course for you?

Who it's for

  • You decide where a system's domain boundaries run.
  • You turn what domain experts say into a model and into code.
  • You are splitting a monolith whose modules all use different terms.
  • You review integrations between teams that own separate models.

Prerequisites

Recommended

The curriculum expects fundamentals and advanced concepts of object-oriented software development and experience modelling object-oriented architectures.

Knowledge of agile methods such as Scrum, Kanban or XP and experience of working with a business department help.

CPSA-F is not needed to attend.

Curriculum, 6 topics

What the course covers.

The topics follow the iSAQB DDD curriculum 2023.2. Your trainer works through them live with the group.

  1. Domain, model and ubiquitous language
  2. Knowledge Crunching: The path to the model
  3. From the model to the implementation
  4. The model in the application architecture
  5. Strategic Design 1: Cutting and distinguishing models from one another
  6. Strategic Design 2: Context Mapping

After the course you can

  • Build and maintain a ubiquitous language with domain experts
  • Derive bounded contexts from subdomains and justify the cut
  • Model entities, value objects, aggregates and services
  • Record how bounded contexts relate in a context map
  • Select context mapping patterns for team dependencies
  • Design a ports and adapters architecture for the domain model
  • Prepare and facilitate a collaborative modelling workshop
  • Argue where DDD pays off for complex business logic
