What this course is.

IMPROVE separates problem analysis from the search for solutions. You analyse the current state with stakeholder interviews, context, code and runtime analysis, estimate the problems and the solution approaches, and plan an order you can argue to the business. Weighing a rewrite against stepwise improvement is part of it.

The module has no exam and earns credit points toward CPSA-A admission; certification requires an assignment and an oral exam after all admission requirements are met.

The curriculum expects hands-on experience designing and developing small to medium systems, some experience maintaining and evolving a system, and practice with the source code of medium to large systems: analysis, assessment, quality checks, refactoring and metrics.

The Albion IMPROVE course has no exam and earns CPSA-A credit points. Certification involves an assignment and an oral exam assessed by experts appointed by the iSAQB, after all admission requirements have been met.

How many credit points does IMPROVE give?

The Albion IMPROVE course carries 30 credit points: 20 for methodical and 10 for technical competence, with communicative competence at zero in the iSAQB curriculum 1.6.1.

Do I need CPSA-F to attend?

You do not need CPSA-F for the Albion IMPROVE course. The iSAQB curriculum expects hands-on experience in development, maintenance and source code analysis instead; a passed Foundation exam is required only for the CPSA-A exam.

What do I get for attending?

The Albion IMPROVE course ends with the Albion certificate of participation, from 80% attendance and with a public verification page. No exam is involved.

Does IMPROVE cover rewriting a system?

Yes, the Albion IMPROVE course weighs a rewrite against stepwise improvement. The iSAQB curriculum asks you to argue the risks and benefits of both, and warns that a rewrite looks simpler than it turns out to be.

What role do analysis tools play in IMPROVE?

The curriculum for the Albion IMPROVE course permits code and runtime analysis tools without requiring them. Learning goals include refactoring, decoupling and test automation.
