iSAQB CPSA-Advanced Requirements for Software Architects (REQ4ARC)

Course Description

Good architecture starts with clear requirements. But in practice, requirements are often incomplete, vague, or conflicting. The REQ4ARC module gives you the knowledge you need as a software architect to handle these challenges.
You will learn how to collect, document, prioritize, and translate functional and quality requirements into architectural decisions. A key focus is identifying which requirements are architecture-relevant, how to maintain them throughout the project, and how to clarify and align them with stakeholders.
The module gives you practical tools to connect requirements and architecture in a structured way while considering technical, business, and organizational constraints.

Seminar goals

  • Assess which requirements are relevant for architectural decisions

  • Formulate and document functional and quality requirements clearly

  • Identify and engage stakeholders and clarify expectations

  • Deal with vague, conflicting, or non-prioritized requirements

  • Link requirements with architectural decisions in a structured way

  • Bridge between requirements models and architecture models effectively

Course Content

This accredited training is based on the current ISAQB® syllabus for the iSAQB® module Requirements for Software Architects (REQ4ARC).

  • Clean start
  • Addressing functional needs
  • Dealing with quality requirements and limitations
  • Behavioral development
  • Prioritization and assessment of requirements
  • Collaboration between roles
  • Tools for requirements engineering
  • Examples

Certification

The seminar is licensed by the iSAQB and contributes to the admission of the final Advanced Level Certification Examination (CPSA-A). Participating in the 3-day REQ4ARC course will earn 30 credit points: 20 are in the methodological area and 10 in the communicative area. You will also receive a qualified certificate of participation.

Target Audience

The target audience for the iSAQB REQ4ARC certification program is software architects and developers responsible for requirements analysis and management in software projects. The program is aimed at experienced software developers and architects who already have knowledge in the areas of software architecture, software development, and requirements analysis.

Prerequisites

Software developers and architects need better requirements.
Product or system administrators who want to provide development teams with the requirements in a more targeted way.

Course Content in Detail

This accredited training is based on the current ISAQB® syllabus for the iSAQB® module Requirements for Software Architects (REQ4ARC).

In the seminar the following topics will be presented and discussed in detail:

Clean start

  • Even with iterative development, understanding some upfront activities is necessary.
  • Mastery and explicit knowledge of vision, goals, and relevant stakeholders are required
  • Understanding an understanding of scope and context is required, particularly the interfaces between scope and context (i.e., the external interfaces of the product)

Addressing functional needs

  • Know the definition of functional requirements
  • Ability to distinguish the functional requirements from quality requirements and constraints

Dealing with quality requirements and limitations

  • Know the definition of quality requirements and limitations
  • Knowing that there is an excellent line between functional requirements and quality requirements because attributes are sometimes determined by being converted into functions

Behavioral development

  • Know that BDD consists of approaches and technologies such as TDD (Test-Driven Development) and ATDD
  • Know that there are different options for specifying requirements
  • Know that BDD applies to a wide range of IT system types, e.g., information systems, business intelligence systems, mobile apps

Prioritization and assessment of requirements

  • Know different methods to express value, e.g., MoSCoW prioritization, defined value ranges, linear sorting of all requirements, weighted factor methods, delay costs
  • Understand that different stakeholders can see value in requirements

Collaboration between roles

  • Understand that iterative system development includes all parts involved in the development process
  • Know that architects are constantly interacting with business analysts and requirements experts, as well as developers and testers

Tools for requirements engineering

  • Know different types of requirements tools (maps, wikis, modeling tools, issue trackers, etc.)

Examples

  • Know the examples of well-articulated requirements of different categories
